Berlin,
Germany is one of the largest, most complex and most
sophisticated cities in Europe. Steeped in history - the city
was bombed and flattened during World War II, only to rise divided.
With East and West now joined, and with the city once more the
capital of a reunited Germany, the city's power and culture
are even more rapidly emerging. Berlin
airports, there are three of them serving the city, Tegel,
Templehof, and Schonefeld. At the center of it all is the huge
park Tiergarten, straddling Strasse des 17 Juin (and the Technical
University of Berlin), and stretching from the heart of
the pre-war city at Unter der Linden in the east, west to modern
Berlin's center of activity at the head of Kurfurstendamm. The
area of Wilmersdorf lies to the south of here with Charlottenburg
due west. From Unter der Linden east, lies Berlin Mitte with
the Brandenburg
Gate and Alexanderplatz.
